WHY USE PEA STRAW?

Reduce watering

Pea staw is brilliant for keeping moisture in the soil and reduces watering by up to 60%. One bale is enough for approximately 9-10m2 when used as mulch.

Suppress weeds

Not only does it make weeds much fewer and far between, but they are much easier to pull out too!

Healthy soil, healthy plants

Pea straw feeds nitrogen and rich organic matter back into the soil, vastly improving soil quality and mycology.
It even feeds the worms!

where does it come from?

Farmers grow peas as a rotational crop as a natural way to add nitrogen back into the soil, or mainly – for us all to eat. What’s left behind after the peas are harvested (dry pods & vines & some left over peas) is what we collect, bale and deliver to you as a hugely nutritional mulch – perfect for all types of gardens.

No plastic bags needed!

The biggest negative we often hear about pea straw is the low value for money with the garden or hardware store 90L bags.Just one of our bales contains approximately 3 - 4 times as much pea straw, covering close to 10m2!

ABOUT

Hello!I'm Jean, the owner and operator of Far North Pea Straw. My journey with gardening started as a 20 year old on my big OE, where I worked for a commercial market garden growing hothouse tomatoes and strawberries. On my return to NZ, I used the skills I had learnt to develop my own domestic gardens. Providing fruit and vegetables for my family and friends as well as landscaped gardens abundant with flowers. Now in living in Kerikeri, my garden area has grown substantially and is in the early stages of development. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and the benefits of pea straw.
